Tips for Visiting Fireworks Festivals in Japan
- Arrive early. Large festivals draw hundreds of thousands of visitors; good free spots fill up 2–4 hours before the show.
- Check the weather. Displays are usually postponed or cancelled in heavy rain — always check the official site (linked above) on the day.
- Trains get crowded. Expect long queues at the nearest station right after the finale; consider waiting 30–60 minutes or walking to a neighboring station.
- Paid seats are sold in advance for most major festivals and are the most comfortable option for visitors.
