Highlights

Where to See the Autumn Leaves

Kappa Bridge (Free)

The valley's symbolic wooden suspension bridge, where the Azusa River, larch forest and the Hotaka peaks combine into Kamikochi's classic autumn view.
About a 5-minute walk from the Kamikochi Bus Terminal along the valley path.

Taisho Pond (Free)

A still, mirror-like pond that reflects surrounding peaks and autumn foliage, best in the calm of early morning.
Reached on foot along the riverside trail downstream from Kappa Bridge, or from the Taisho-ike bus stop.

Getting There

Private cars are banned; access is by bus or taxi to the Kamikochi Bus Terminal, typically via the gateway of Sawando (from Matsumoto) or Hirayu Onsen. From the terminal it is a short walk to Kappa Bridge. Kamikochi closes for winter on 15 November each year and reopens in mid-to-late April.
